MODIFICATIONS TO THE PRODUCT MASTER MERGE (IC/1/7) PROGRAM

PURPOSE:

1. Create prod-history record recording the merge from one product to another so that when this merge program changes the quantities in the "target product"..that change is shown in listings such as the iq/5/15 & iq/5/17 programs.

2. Change ORDERS, POs, RECEIVED-POS, etc. so that they have a line showing

(PRODUCT ABC TRANSFERRED FROM ABC TO ABC-A 05/16/06)

3. Maintain new files (SUB-ORIG-DATA, SUBS, SUBS-INDEX, PRODUCT-MASTER-ORIGINAL, INVENTORY-ORIGINAL) so that research can be done regarding the progression of a product from one product number to another.

4. create npc entry for these items.

RUNNING PROGRAM:

IN most ways the IC/1/7 program is run exactly as always. The changes are "behind the scenes changes"

the following shows that a prod-history record is created when a product is "merged" into another program.

In every case the quantity will show as zero. however, for informational purposes, the old quantity will show under the reference along with the old location.

ABILITY TO TRACK PROGRESSION FROM ONE PRODUCT TO ANOTHER.

When a product number is entered, the "from product" is shown as the previous product.

If the product later was merged with a new product, that new product is shown as the "future substitution"

in this example, product 24X24X2 was "merged" into product UC2424-2.

what is being shown here is the description, location, quantity on hand, cost and price of the "from product" just prior to being merged. The same information is shown for the "to product".

in this example, item 3169341 was merged into product 3191991

CYCLE COUNTS:

in any case where the inventory record in the "from product" or the inventory record in the "to product" had quantity on hand or a location, an NPC entry is put into the file so that a physical count can be made.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION KEPT IN PROD-HISTORY RECORDS:

In any case where there was inventory in the "old product" or in the "new product" a prod-history record is created.

This record will have a quantity, price and cost of 0.00. however, it will contain new attributes with the "old locations" "old quantity on hand" "old vendor cost" "old standard cost" "date of merge". This record will be shown in iq/5/15 so that the "old qoh" and "old locations" can easily be seen when looking at the status of the "new product".

Additionally, in any case where the prod-history record is changed (where the old product is replaced with the new product) the quantity on hand, locations, vendor cost, standard cost at the "from inventory record" are put into the prod-history record.

additional files are created:

PRODUCT-MASTER-ORIG (the "old" product just before it was merged)

INVENTORY-ORIG (the "old" inventory record just before it was merged)

SUBS: the old product, new product, new cost, new list price, old price, date, for each branch the quantity on hand, the new description, the old description.

SUB-ORIG-DATA: this contains the original quantity on hand, original locations, the "to product", list of open sales orders, quantity on hand at the new product

SUB-ORIG-INDEX this index shows the progression of one product to another and allows us to display the screen shown above.
